Commencement Week at GW

2017 Commencement Week at GW
May 17, 2017

[Updated: May 20, 10:30 a.m.] The George Washington University’s Commencement will be held tomorrow, Sunday, May 21, at 9:30 a.m. on the National Mall on the grounds of the Washington Monument between 15th and 17th streets, NW. Commencement on the National Mall will take place rain or shine.

For those planning ahead, GW encourages families, guests and graduates to take the Metro to the National Mall as parking is extremely limited near the National Mall. The Metro opens at 7 a.m. on Sundays. The closest Metro stops to the commencement site are the Smithsonian and Federal Triangle stations on the Orange, Silver and Blue lines. Other nearby stations include Metro Center and Farragut North on the Red line, and McPherson Square and Farragut West on the Orange, Silver and Blue lines.

Please be advised that Metrorail track work is scheduled to take place starting May 16. A portion of the orange line between New Carrollton and Stadium-Armory stations will be closed. On weekdays, limited free shuttle buses running every 30 minutes will replace trains between these two stations. Weekend frequencies may change to coordinate with other planned track work on the Metrorail system.  We suggest that you leave extra time as you travel to campus for the school recognition ceremonies and to the National Mall for Sunday’s commencement.

GW’s schools and colleges will continue to hold their graduation celebrations today and tomorrow. For a complete schedule of activities and information on individual recognition ceremonies, visit commencement.gwu.edu.

Each of the individual school recognition ceremonies and the University Commencement on May 21 will be live-streamed at commencement.gwu.edu.
