[Updated: May 14, 2 p.m.]—The George Washington University’s Commencement will be held Sunday, May 20, at 9:30 a.m. on the National Mall. The ceremony site is located between 9 and 12th Streets and will be near the Smithsonian Institute Building’s “The Castle.” Commencement on the National Mall will take place rain or shine.
GW’s schools and colleges also have ceremonies to honor their graduates. For a complete schedule of activities and information on individual recognition ceremonies, visit commencement.gwu.edu.
Each of the individual school recognition ceremonies and the University Commencement on May 20 will be live-streamed at commencement.gwu.edu.
In the event of changes to the commencement week schedule and/or Sunday’s University Commencement ceremony, information will be communicated through the following ways:

For those planning ahead, GW encourages families, guests and graduates to take the Metro to the National Mall as parking is extremely limited near the National Mall. The Metro opens at 8 a.m. on Sundays. The closest Metro stops to the commencement site are the Smithsonian and Federal Triangle stations on the Orange, Silver and Blue lines. Other nearby stations include Metro Center and Farragut North on the Red line, and McPherson Square and Farragut West on the Orange, Silver and Blue lines.
