[Updated: February 10; 11 p.m.] GW will open at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 11 because of inclement weather in the region.
GW classes, activities and University events scheduled to start before 9:30 a.m. are canceled. Academic and administrative offices will open at 9:30 a.m. This includes Foggy Bottom, Mount Vernon, and Virginia Science and Technology campuses, Biostatistics Center, Alexandria and Arlington graduate education centers, and other locations throughout the Washington metropolitan area.
Online classes will continue to be held as scheduled during this weather event. We encourage faculty to use technology to allow classes to be held online during situations when it is not possible to hold class on-campus and/or provide work for students to complete. Students, we ask that you check your email for class updates from your faculty and faculty are encouraged to work with students to adjust as necessary.
Updates and changes to dining, transportation, library hours, NCAA athletic events and other university services will be posted throughout the remainder of this weather event at GW Campus Advisories. Please check the site frequently for the latest updates.
When a delayed opening is declared, employees classified as Designated On-Site are required to report to and/or remain at work. Employees classified as Essential are generally expected to telecommute, and employees classified as Non-Essential are not required to work unless directed to do so by a supervisor. If you are unsure of your classification, please ask your supervisor.
As a reminder to our campus community, especially our new community members:
The university's operating status is evaluated on a daily basis. If there is a need to alter the university's operating status because of adverse weather, university officials will do their best to make decisions by 5 a.m. for morning operations and/or classes or by 4 p.m. for evening operations and/or classes. Sometimes conditions enable the university to make an earlier decision.
If there is change to the university's status, information will be communicated through the following ways:
