The terrorist attacks that our nation has suffered have left the entire George Washington University Community devastated. We are in close touch with all appropriate local and federal officials, and our crisis team has met throughout the day to carefully monitor the situation and determine appropriate actions. We are reassured that there seems no reason to foresee any immediate threat to The George Washington University community. We will, of course, continue to watch events carefully.

Students should all know that their well-being is our number one priority and that priority will underlie all of our decisions. And all should know that the University's student support services-including counseling-are available 24 hours a day.

Constructive response to the current situation requires that we remain calm. To that end, we plan to resume classes and other activities.

I know I speak for the entire University in sending our heartfelt condolences to the victims of these attacks and to their families. There is no doubt that our community and our nation will be touched in many ways by this catastrophe. We will be here for our students, faculty, and staff during this time of crisis and its aftermath.

Sincerely,

Stephen Joel Trachtenberg
President
