Special Winter Break Operating Hours for University Services

ACADEMIC BUILDING HOURS

General purpose academic buildings will have limited hours during the period of Dec. 21–Jan. 3.  Regular hours will return on Jan. 4.  Building hours can be found at http://facilities.gwu.edu/general-access-building-hours.

Dec. 21-23, 28-30: All buildings will close at 6 p.m. for general public access, but will be able to be accessed by the GW community (with GWorld card) until 8 p.m.  After 8 p.m., only individuals with authorized 24/7 GWorld privileges will be able to access the buildings.

CAMPUS STORES

GW Campus Store (Marvin Center lower level)

  • Dec. 21-23, 28-31, Jan. 2-3: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Dec. 24-27, Jan. 1.: Closed
  • Jan. 2-3: Noon-4 p.m.

Buff & Blue on Penn (2100 Penn) and Tech Hub (Marvin Center ground floor)

  • Dec. 21-Jan. 3: Closed
  • Normal hours resume Jan. 4.

CENTER FOR CAREER SERVICES/CENTER FOR STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

Special winter break hours for the Center for Career Services/Center for Student Engagement are as follows:

  • Dec. 10-18: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Dec. 21, 22: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Dec. 23: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Dec. 24, 25: Closed
  • Dec. 28, 29: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Dec. 30: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Dec. 31, Jan. 1: Closed
  • Jan. 4-8: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

COLONIAL HEALTH CENTER

Colonial Health Center will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. during winter break. The center will not be open on Saturdays. CHC will resume normal business hours on Monday, Jan 11, 2016.

Mental Health Services at the Mount Vernon Campus will be closed during the winter break.

DINING

GW’s Dining Services will be closed during the winter break. GWorld partners will operate based upon their own closing schedule for the holidays.

At the Mount Vernon Campus, Pelham Commons at West Hall will reopen Jan. 10, and Zime will reopen Jan. 11. At Foggy Bottom, J Street and G-Dub Java will reopen on Jan. 11, 2016.

EMeRG

EMeRG will be out of service beginning Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at 11 a.m. for the winter break. Service will return on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at 6 p.m.

All other George Washington Police Department security operations will remain 24/7.

FACILITIES CENTRAL

Facilities Central will maintain 24/7 operations during winter break. Please submit a FixIt ticket or call 202-994-6706 for emergency issues.

GWORLD CARD OFFICE

GWorld will have adjusted hours from December 21–January 8 as follows:

  • Dec. 21, 22, 28 and 29: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 23: 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Dec. 24-27 and Dec. 31-Jan. 3: Closed
  • Jan. 4-8: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Regular hours resume on Saturday, Jan. 9.

IT SUPPORT CENTER AND TECH COMMONS

Due to the historically low volume of IT support requests during the holiday season, the IT Support Center and Tech Commons walk-up support will be closed during the dates and times listed below. 

The IT Support Center will be closed:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, beginning at 11 p.m. through Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at 7:59 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, beginning at 11 p.m. through Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at 7:59 a.m.

Tech Commons will be closed:

  • Thursday and Friday, Dec. 24 and 25, 2015
  • Thursday and Friday, Dec. 31, 2015, and Jan. 1, 2016

If you need IT support during this time, please send an email to [email protected] or submit an IT support request ticket through IT.GWU.EDU. A ticket will be created, and a staff member will contact you once the IT Support Center reopens. The GWiz Knowledge Base, a resource that allows GW community members to access self-service knowledge about technology and assistance with the Division of IT's services will also be available. 

Tech Commons will also be operating under limited holiday hours until the beginning of the spring semester: 

  • Dec. 19, 2015, through Jan. 8, 2016: Tech Commons will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday

MARVIN CENTER INFORMATION DESK

The Marvin Center Information Desk will be closed starting Monday, December 21 and will reopen Monday, January 4.

OFFICE OF STUDENT RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Office of Students Rights & Responsibilities will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. during winter break.

PARKING

Monthly and occasional parking access will be available via GWorld card. Visitor parking will be available on the Foggy Bottom Campus at Science and Engineering Hall (800 22nd St., NW) throughout the break period.

SHUTTLES

Vex (Vern Express)

There will be an alternate Vex (Vern Express) schedule Dec. 20, 2015-Jan. 2, 2016:

  • Vex will run from 7 a.m.–8 p.m. on a 30-minute schedule from both campuses.
  • Between 8 p.m.–7 a.m., there will be no shuttle service, but residents may call 4-RIDE (202-994-7433) to be transported between campuses via GW fleet vehicles clearly identified as Vern Express. 
  • There will be no Vex or 4Ride Service on GW holidays (from 7 a.m. on Dec. 24 through 7 a.m. on Dec. 26 and 7 a.m. on Dec. 31 through 7 a.m. on Jan. 2).  Students walking across campus are encouraged to use the PAL App or utilize D.C. bus services detailed on the Transportation & Parking Services website or cab services such as Uber or Lyft.

Virginia Science and Technology Campus Express

Evening shuttles (9-9:15 p.m. from VSTC and 10:10 p.m. from Foggy Bottom) will not run between Monday, Dec. 21, and Monday, Jan. 11.

Standard service will resume on Jan. 11, 2016.

STUDENT LOCK OUTS

Students with lock out issues on the Foggy Bottom Campus should visit Facilities Central (Support Building, 2025 F St., NW) for lock out assistance.

Mount Vernon Key Depot will be closed from December 19-January 9.
