Beginning Wednesday, June 1, 2022, the DC Fire Marshal’s office will work with our Environmental Health and Safety team to conduct campus-wide building inspections.  The team will review each building’s exterior property and interior spaces for compliance with the National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, and other pertinent regulatory mandates.

The following are some typical key areas, items, or conditions the inspectors may view during the inspection:

  • Maintenance and inspection reports of various life safety equipment
  • Maintenance and clearance for fire protection systems and signage
  • Maintenance and inspection of cooking area exhaust hoods and duct systems
  • Storage and identification of combustible materials and chemicals
  • Proper use of extension cords and electrically operated equipment
  • Written manuals and emergency plans
  • Compressed gas storage
  • Walkways, steps, parking areas

Building inspections will be conducted three days a week until all are completed, which should be by August 1st.  Contact [email protected] with any questions.
