The new virus is a coronavirus, which is a family of viruses that include the common cold and was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and continues to expand. There are currently five confirmed cases in the U.S. What you can doWe know this evolving public health situation may cause concern in our GW community, and the university is taking precautions based on the developments. Specifically, you will see the university’s public health campaign in bathrooms around campus: the stickers that say, “hand washing reflects well on you.” This message may seem like common sense, and for good reason--studies have shown that hand washing can prevent 1 in 5 respiratory infections. To protect against a range of illnesses, including coronavirus, the WHO recommends:
