We are reaching out to you with an update on how we will manage retrieval of belongings from on-campus housing and official move-out in light of the continued public health concerns related to COVID-19.
With local and state governments continuing to implement movement restrictions and stay home instructions to limit the spread of COVID-19, we do not believe it will be safe for students and their families to return to campus in the coming weeks to move out on their own accord. With your safety as our top priority, we will begin a phased building by building process of packing and storing belongings in each residential room with the assistance of a professional moving company trained in the most up to date safety and security measures including a video chat and photographic documentation of belongings.
In this initial phase, our focus will be on packing and storing your belongings up until the start of the fall 2020 semester at no cost to you. We are also exploring options for the retrieval of your stored belongings if this becomes a safe option or shipping some of your items. Additional information will be shared in future communication.
We realize that this is not ideal and will work with you during the packing process to ensure you can be reunited with your belongings as soon as it is safe to do so. An added urgency is the need to provide temporary housing to medical professionals from GW Hospital and GW Medical Faculty Associates who are unable to travel home to be with their families while they provide medical care during this growing pandemic.
The packing and storing process will start the first week of April and conclude by the first week of May. When your stage of the packing and storing process is set to begin, you will receive an email with instructions specific to your room and building.
Students living in Thurston, District House, Munson, and International House will be contacted first and will receive information by Monday so we may begin this process. Other buildings will follow and be contacted in a coordinated effort.
We realize that these last few weeks have brought many changes and adjustments. We greatly appreciate the patience and understanding that you and your families have shown as we work together to manage this rapidly evolving situation.
We will be back in touch with you as soon as possible with additional information. If you have any immediate questions, please email us at [email protected] and a member of our team will follow up with you.
