Foggy Bottom and VSTC to be closed Sunday, Jan. 31st

January 30, 2021

The Foggy Bottom and Virginia Science and Technology campuses will be closed for most in-person activities on Sunday, Jan 31. Students, faculty and staff currently learning, teaching and working remotely should continue to do so. Designated on-site employees should contact their supervisors for reporting instructions to ensure a safe commute to work.

Any student with clinical responsibilities should check with their clinical supervisor for further instruction. If any student with clinical responsibilities feels that the conditions are unsafe and are not able to make it in, please let your resident, attending physician, or clinical instructor know.

The Foggy Bottom COVID-19 testing center at Marvin Center will be closed. Members of the Spring 2021 on-campus cohort who are scheduled for a COVID-19 test on Sunday should reschedule their test for the next available appointment when they return to campus.

Campus libraries (Gelman, Himmelfarb, and the Law School) will maintain virtual operations but will be closed to in-person services.

Snow is expected to start around 3-4 a.m. on Sunday and become steadier by mid-Sunday morning. Snow will continue through the afternoon, transitioning to a mix of snow/sleet/freezing rain around 5-6 p.m. and becoming rain/freezing rain after 11 p.m.

Those who do have to travel during the day should allow extra time to reach their destination and travel cautiously. Our dedicated facilities team members will work throughout the day to treat the paved surfaces on our campuses for your safety.

GW Emergency Management will continue to monitor the weather and will provide an update on the university’s operational status for Monday by 5 p.m. on Sunday night.
