Gelman Library to Close Friday, Digital Services Still Available

March 18, 2020

To the GW Community:

As the number of COVID-19 cases has increased and we have received more guidance on social distancing and limiting gatherings, we have made the difficult decision to close the Gelman Library building, effective Friday, March 20.

Although physical access to the building will be restricted to designated staff, Libraries and Academic Innovation (LAI) will remain digitally open, and access to remote library resources and services will always be available to all students, faculty, and staff. This includes support for virtual learning, peer tutoring and course reviews, and faculty and student research.

We are also committed to maintaining access to library materials, especially Top Textbooks and other items on reserve, that are needed for teaching and research. Wherever possible we will provide digital rather than physical copies, recognizing that we need to work within copyright guidelines.

Our priorities are the safety of the GW community and support for continuity of instruction as well as research. Ensuring that faculty and students have access to the information and services they need in digital format or other online formats will best enable us to meet both of these priorities moving forward.

Sincerely,

Geneva Henry

Dean of Libraries and Academic Innovation
