GW ADVISORY: Winter Weather Advisory Feb 10th

February 10, 2021

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the District of Columbia and Loudoun County, VA., for Wednesday, Feb. 10 until Thursday morning, Feb. 11. Currently, snow is expected to start Wednesday evening and affect the Foggy Bottom, Mount Vernon, and Virginia Science and Technology campuses. Snow will turn into rain early Thursday morning. GW Emergency Management will monitor the situation throughout the evening and provide updates on the university’s operational status as necessary. More winter weather is expected throughout the next week.

If you travel tomorrow morning, allow extra time to reach your destination and travel cautiously; surfaces may be icy. Our dedicated Facilities team members will work overnight and throughout the day to treat the paved surfaces on our campuses for your safety.

We will communicate information via:

  • Text and email alerts through GW Alerts
  • Messages through the GW Guardian App
  • GW’s homepage and Campus Advisories
  • GW Information Line (202-994-5050), the VSTC information line (571-553-8333)  and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences Information Line (202-994-2196)
  • Social media via Twitter and Facebook

If the university declares a change to its operating status, employees classified as Designated On-Site are required to report to and/or remain at work. If you are unsure of your classification, please ask your supervisor.

If any student with clinical responsibilities feels that the conditions are unsafe and is not able to make it in, please let your resident, attending physician, or clinical instructor know.

For preparedness tips and safety information, refer to GW’s Emergency Response Handbook or visit the Department of Homeland Security’s Ready.gov website at www.ready.gov for additional resources to help you plan ahead for emergencies.
