GW SAFETY ADVISORY: National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin 5/14

May 24, 2021

To GW Community Members:

Due to a heightened threat environment across the United States, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin. DHS believes this heightened threat includes potential violence by domestic extremists seeking to exploit the easing of COVID-19-related restrictions and, as a result, some racially and ethnically minoritized groups may be disproportionately targeted.

We are not aware of any specific threats to campus. While this is a national bulletin, we want to make our community members aware of this information, especially due to the proximity of the Foggy Bottom campus to many federal government facilities and personnels, which have been targets of domestic violent extremists. We ask that you remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the GW Police Department.

Community members who experience or witness a bias related incident are encouraged to report it to the Office for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement. Those who are affected by any form of harm or violence may contact the Office of Advocacy and Support.

We will continue to work with our local, regional, and federal partners to ensure that our community remains safe. For the latest safety and security updates, please monitor GW Campus Advisories and download the Guardian app. In case of an emergency on campus, call GWPD at 202-994-6111. If you are off campus, call Metropolitan Police using 911.
