Headspace Now Available for Faculty and Staff

April 24, 2020

Dear GW Community,

I hope this message finds each of you safe and well. Our university’s response to this pandemic has continued to prioritize your safety and health, and care remains integral to how our GW community works together through this challenge. We also recognize that care needs to be performed on multiple scales, at both the community and individual-level. Our care needs to meet you where you are, and while many of us are practicing social distancing, we want to ensure that you have access to the resources you need to support your mental wellbeing. Beginning today, all benefits-eligible faculty and staff members will have free, unlimited access to Headspace, a tool designed to provide a collection of mindfulness, sleep, and movement exercises.

Our Benefits Advisory Committee (BAC), which is led by faculty and staff members, intended to introduce this unique opportunity to our community in the fall of 2020. However, as the results of this pandemic present unforeseen challenges and keeping our mental health in mind, we are providing you access to this resource today. Instructions on how to sign-up and begin can be found on the Human Resource Management and Development website

If you have never practiced or engaged in meditation or mindfulness training before, I invite you to begin your journey here. I encourage you to explore all the offerings from Headspace. It is equipped with mindfulness tools and practices for users at all levels and stages in life. While it is our hope that giving you access to this resource early provides you with some immediate support, the importance of caring for your mental wellbeing extends beyond our current situation.

Although these times are filled with uncertainty and constant change, your care for each other has remained steadfast. Remember that your commitment to caring for our community begins with your own health and wellbeing. Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is always available to you should you need a helping hand, along with a variety of other resources on the GW Benefits website. We are grateful for your continued partnership in our journey to providing care that can support your needs, regardless of the circumstances.

My best,

Dana Bradley
Vice President and Chief People Officer
