The 19th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Peace Walk and Parade will occur this Monday, January 15, 2024. Over a thousand ‘Peace Walkers’ join annually in the two-mile walk along MLK Ave in Southeast DC. Additional details may be found here. The peace walk and parade will result in road closures to keep in mind if traveling through the District.
Road Closures
Event organizers report there will be impacts to vehicular traffic in the area of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Peace Walk and Parade taking place this MLK Day.
The following streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue from Marion Barry Avenue to Malcolm X Avenue, SE
- Marion Barry Avenue from Anacostia Drive to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE
- Anacostia Drive from US Park Police Anacostia Facility to Anacostia Recreation Center
The following streets will be closed to vehicle traffic from approximately 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue from Marion Barry Avenue to Malcolm X Avenue, SE
- Marion Barry Avenue from Anacostia Drive to Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE
- Anacostia Drive from US Park Police Anacostia Facility to Anacostia Recreation Center
