The Office of Unified Communications (OUC) has reported a nationwide Verizon Wireless outage that may affect some users attempting to reach 911 or 202-994-6111 (GW Emergency Services). Wireless providers have indicated that engineers are actively working to restore full voice and data service. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
If you experience an emergency and cannot connect using your Verizon device, please use one of the following alternatives:
- Use a blue light emergency phone.
- Enable Wi-Fi calling if your device and network support it.
- Use a landline if one is available.
- Use satellite service on your cell phone, and do not hang up until you have spoken with a call taker.
- Try calling from another cellular carrier’s device.
- Go to the nearest police or fire station to report the emergency in person.
- Contact security or campus safety staff in person.
Please remain alert and use these alternatives if you experience difficulty connecting to 911.
