Robberies Involving Apple AirPods Max in Foggy Bottom

November 18, 2025

The George Washington University Police Department (GWPD) is alerting the campus community to a recent increase in robberies involving Apple AirPods Max occurring in public spaces on and around the Foggy Bottom Campus.

In these incidents, individuals wearing the AirPods Max headphones were approached by suspects who quickly removed the headphones and fled the area. No serious injuries have been reported. We encourage any victims to immediately report the robbery by calling 911 or GWPD as soon as possible.

GWPD is actively coordinating with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), increasing patrols in impacted areas, and working to identify suspects.

Safety Tips and Prevention Measures

Your awareness and reporting play an important role in campus safety. GWPD encourages the community to take the following precautions:

  • Stay aware of your surroundings. Keep your head up, remain alert, and avoid distractions.
  • Keep headphone volume low. Maintain the ability to hear what is happening around you.
  • Use caution when wearing high-value electronics in public. Consider removing headphones or storing them in a bag when walking alone.
  • Use GW safety resources. These include blue light emergency phones, SafeRide, and GWPD walking escorts (which are available by calling 202-994-6110).

Report suspicious activity. Call GWPD at 202-994-6111 or dial 911 immediately if you observe behavior that seems concerning.
