US-Africa Leaders Summit

The District is hosting the US-Africa Leaders Summit from Tuesday, December 13, 2022, to Thursday, December 15, 2022. The main events are taking place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, with additional events around the city.  The official Summit website is here, and the official schedule of events is available here.   

Road Closures 

MPD reports there will be numerous impacts to vehicular traffic, pedestrians, and public transportation in the area of the Washington Convention Center (WCC).  An interactive map of road closures and parking restrictions can be found on the MPD Advisory webpage for this event along with further information about vehicle and pedestrian access to the affected areas. Additionally, there will be rolling street closures around the White House due to dignitary movements throughout the duration of the event.

WMATA Information  

WMATA has issued a press release with updates regarding service information for December 10–17, 2022:  

  • From Saturday, December 10 at 5:00 am to Saturday, December 17 at 12:01 am, multiple buses will detour due to the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. Please allow additional travel time and avoid the area if possible. Consider Metrorail as an alternate travel option. 
  • Metrobus routes will be detoured beginning on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the start of service and will remain in effect through Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 12:01 a.m. Routes detoured include 70, 79, 74, 63, 64, D4, G8, and S2.  
  • Metrorail’s Mt. Vernon Square Station will also be closed beginning on Monday, December 12 at 1700 and will remain in effect through Thursday, December 15, 2022.
